Staying at The Preserve Resort: Kiss the Clouds Cabin

Kiss the Clouds is a 2-bedroom, 2-bath cabin that sleeps up to 8, and it suits couples, small families and pet owners. It does not suit guests who need step-free access.

Is The Preserve Resort a good place to stay?
The resort stands at the top of a ridge overlooking Wears Valley, an area Cabins of the Smoky Mountains says is sometimes called the quiet side of the Smokies. The same company describes it as the highest-elevation resort in the Great Smoky Mountains and a short drive from Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and the national park.
That matches what I tell guests: you drive up, the pace slows, and the view does a lot of the work. If you want to know more about the valley itself, our post on what makes Wears Valley so special goes deeper.
What is it like inside Kiss the Clouds?
The view comes first. Large floor-to-ceiling windows give you the mountains from almost anywhere in the cabin, including the dining room and living room.
The living room has a stone fireplace, which is why I like this cabin for autumn and winter trips. On the back deck you get the feeling of standing on top of the mountain, and the hot tub is a great place to soak after the days activities which overlooks the Smoky Mountains. There is also a porch with rocking chairs for coffee at sunrise or a sunset watch.
The cul-de-sac itself has long-range views over Wears Valley, so you can walk a few steps and still have the outlook.
How does the sleeping and space work for 8 guests?
The cabin has 2 bedrooms, but the layout stretches further than that number suggests:
- Main-level king master suite, with a crib
- Children's sleeping loft with 2 futon floor mattresses - equivalent to a full size mattress
- Upper-level king bed in the open upper level
- A sleeper sofa on the main level
There are two bathrooms. The main-level bathroom is reached through the king master suite, and the upper-level bathroom has a jetted tub. Keep that in mind if you are travelling with another couple.
For downtime there is a game room with a pool table, foosball and arcade games, plus a sound system and a fire pit outside at the amenities center. The kitchen has a dishwasher, and coffee is provided. A washer and dryer are in the cabin.
